15 Die In Tijuana,Mexico Shootout
TIJUANA, Mexico - At least 15 suspected criminals, some
dressed as police officers, killed each other in a
shootout on Saturday in Mexico’s violence-plagued Pacific
coast city of Tijuana, authorities said.
Six other people were wounded in the street skirmish that
left bodies and powerful guns strewn across a street of
the city’s east side, police said. “Right now there are 14
people dead. We know there is one more, but the killers
took the body with them,” an official from the Baja
California state attorney’s office said.
Local police earlier said 10 people had died in the shootout.
“Some of the killers were wearing police uniforms,” a
municipal police spokesman said, adding that authorities
were investigating the motive of the shootout. The Mexican
government has deployed troops and federal police to
battle drug-related violence in Tijuana, a stronghold of a
drug trafficking cartel just south of the US border.
